Julie Wiegand / Director of Women’s Discipleship & Outreach
The Lord gave Julie a strong desire to serve Him at the age of 7. While in grade school, Julie watched a movie about a missionary in El Salvador who helped refugees. She decided right then and there that she wanted to help the hurting, oppressed and orphaned, but she didn't know at the time how to pursue that desire. The Lord matured her calling through bringing her to seminary where she received her Masters of Social Work and Certificate in Theology. Julie has worked with at-risk and delinquent youth in the inner city and in wilderness residential therapy. She has worked in youth ministry most of her life with a special interest in those that were 'rough around the edges'. She has taught and discipled college students and young adults to grow in their walk with Christ. She worked with refugees from Somalia in Louisville and she went on numerous mission trips all over the globe. Slowly God was opening her heart to go overseas to reach the nations. In 2010, she started working with women in the sex industry in Louisville and the Lord put on her a burden for women and children who have been exploited and oppressed through this industry. After taking time off to pray and ask God where he would have her, God led her to research the overwhelming evil that is trafficking. After seeing the great need in the Dominican, the Lord opened doors and affirmed her through others that this is where she was called to serve. Julie will be teaching and discipling women in the Dominican, developing a prevention program for women and children who are vulnerable to trafficking as well as doing outreach to women who are in the sex industry.
