Jeanne... seven kids, one Deaf and mute son living at home
- Construction of a church
- For my family and especially for all of my grandkids to grow closer to God
- That Icene, my son, will prosper in his church and especially with his new wife
Ministry is in the Etienne family. Hitler is both the son of a pastor and the father of another pastor. At the age of 23, he was baptized in the church at Cape Carvajal, Haiti where his father was the pastor. Soon afterward, he felt the call of God to follow his father into the ministry. He began studying the Bible in preparation. When his father could no longer lead the church due to age and illness, Hitler began stepping in as a “guest preacher” while the church sought another pastor. It soon became clear that Hitler was the person for the position. He accepted the position and has been working to grow the church ever since.
Education is a vital component of success to Hitler. Two of his sons are studying to become engineers and another is following his father into ministry. Another part of the legacy of the Etienne family’s view of education is the school that Pastor Etienne started to educate the children of the local area. Since beginning with 23 student, enrollment has grown to more than one hundred. In 2011, more than 150 students will have an opportunity for an education because of this school. Pastor Etienne believes that education is the way forward for Haiti.
Pastor Etienne and his wife have raised seven children, including a special needs child. Disability in Haiti can be an unsurmountable challenge, but they have been able to help their child become an active member of the family and community. In addition, they have adopted a toddler from the community whose birth mother was no longer able to care for him.
