Bio:
Jose Luis, the youngest of eight children, grew up in Monte Adentro, a neighborhood in Santiago. Although drug use was and continues to be prevalent in this area, young Jose Luis was too busy spending his time on the baseball field to get involved with such things. Not only that, his strict Catholic family would never have allowed it.
As he got older, Jose Luis continued to live a “decent” life, but he was not seeking God. Then one day, while in his mid-twenties, he was involved in a fatal car crash. The experience shook him up and got him thinking about God and eternity. He found himself at an evangelical church, and, six months after first attending, he surrendered his life to Christ. Jose Luis was drawn to G.O. Ministries after becoming friends with several staff members and later joined the ministry by working with the construction crew and Sports Ministry Team.
Today, he is the Director of Baseball Outreach for G.O. Jose Luis uses his talent for the sport and his passion for God to reach many kids in the Hoya del Caimito neighborhood. Although he wants to help his students pursue their dreams of baseball, his first priority is to teach them about Christ so, each time they meet, they spend time in the Word. Jose Luis knows God has him in this position in order to make a difference in the boys’ lives, many of whom would likely be using drugs or street fighting if it weren’t for the baseball outreach. Jose Luis also invests in the lives of the coaches he works with. By pouring into them, they are further equipped to help reach even more students. It’s a team effort!
Jose Luis married Katerine in 2003 and together they have three children, Genesis (13), Luis Jose (6), and Luis Adrian (1 and1/2).
