Juan Luis Rosa Gullen
Hoya del Caimito, D.R.
- For my family
- Relationship with my girlfriend
- For my spiritual life
At age the young age of 12, Juan Luis worked for a family friend as a painter’s apprentice. From there he was taught the skill of welding and found it to be something he really enjoyed. Although he was kept busy learning and using these skills, he grew up like many of the boys living in the neighborhood of Hoya del Caimito—involved in a partying lifestyle that left him feeling empty. Seeing that he was going through a difficult time, a friend invited him to church. Juan Luis noticed a change in several of his friends who attended church and had accepted Christ. So, at age 18, he made his own decision to step out in faith and follow the Lord.
While regularly attending G.O.’s Central Church, he was given the opportunity, along with a few other young adults, to attend a leadership seminary located five hours from home. Juan Luis made the move and grew in his faith. Upon returning to Hoya del Caimito at the end of his year commitment, the head of G.O.’s construction team (see Rene Rodriguez’s bio) offered Juan Luis a job. Although he had other offers to do similar work, he decided to join G.O. Ministries in 2006.
Today Juan Luis uses his welding and construction skills as a member of G.O.’s construction team, working primarily in the neighborhood he grew up in. He strives to be a light and example not only to his community—a place where many seek God, yet are surrounded by negative influences—but also in the lives of his co-workers. He is committed to community and forgiving others and tries to model that by how he conducts himself on the job site.
Juan Luis’s vision for his future ministry is to be part of the Leadership Development Center by teaching others the trade of welding.
